Deborah Getzoff and Meredith Delcamp Speak at Florida Chamber's 35th Annual Environmental Permitting Conference

Deborah A. Getzoff and Meredith S. Delcamp, partners in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Tampa office, recently spoke at separate sessions during the Florida Chamber Foundation’s 35th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School Conference, held July 20-23 at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort. Also participating in the Shutts sponsored event was Tampa attorney Kasey A. Feltner.

Deborah Getzoff and Kasey Feltner at the 35th Annual Environmental Permitting ConferenceDeborah and Meredith were educational speakers at the event, which is the largest and most successfully attended environmental conference in the state of Florida. On July 21, 2021, Meredith presented on “Emerging Issues in Pollution Liability,” discussing case law updates on Section 376.313, as well as emerging issues related to institutional controls. On July 22 and 23, Deborah was course moderator and participated as a presenter in the “Federal Wetlands Permitting Update” session, discussing Army Corps pending litigation, permitting, and mitigation processes. Deborah has been a presenter on various topics throughout the conference’s 35-year history.

Founded in 1968, the Florida Chamber Foundation is a business-led, solutions development and research organization, working in partnership with state business leaders to secure Florida’s future. The Florida Environmental Network, Inc. (FENI) is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to keep members and organizations informed of environmental and growth management laws and regulations. Each year FENI produces the popular ‘Summer School’ Conference to engage with engineers, attorneys, consultants, state and local government officials, developers, landowners and others with a strong interest in environmental issues in Florida. The Environmental ‘Summer School’ Conference featured over 90 courses throughout the event and offered continuing education credits to legal professionals, engineers and licensed environmental professionals.

About Deborah A. Getzoff

Deborah Getzoff is a partner in the Shutts Tampa office, where she is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group. With more than 35 years of environmental and administrative law experience in both the private and public sectors, Deborah has had extensive experience representing developers, hotels, beach communities and condominiums in the permitting of land development projects, beach and coastal construction/protection projects, and marinas before state and federal environmental agencies. She has negotiated issuance of state and federal permits for large-scale developments involving impacts to wetlands, water quality and endangered and threatened species. She has obtained permits and state lands approvals for hotels, beach construction, coastal protection structures, and marina projects. Deborah served as Director of The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Southwest District Office from 1999-2011 where she managed permitting and compliance activities for Water, Waste, Air and Environmental Resource wetland programs in a twelve-county area.  She had previously served as Deputy General Counsel for Permitting at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

About Meredith S. Delcamp

Meredith Delcamp is a partner in the Shutts Tampa and Sarasota offices, where she is a member of the Business Litigation Practice Group. Meredith assists property owners, developers and business in a variety of transactional and litigation matters related to real property. With a background in environmental sciences, she advises clients on environmental and land use due diligence, permitting, and regulatory compliance matters involving federal, state, and local regulations. Meredith has experience litigating administrative challenges before the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH), as well as experience with LEED certification and other green development and building needs. She holds a certificate in Environmental Law from Tulane University Law School.
