Shutts & Bowen LLP is pleased to announce that the President-Elect of The Florida Bar has appointed Tampa partner Woodrow “Woody” H. Pollack as Chair of The Florida Bar’s Intellectual Property Certification Committee.
“The competence and professionalism that distinguishes Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyers has been extended to few attorneys recognized in Intellectual Property Law,” said Woody. “I am excited to lead this committee’s efforts to further improve our profession and practice area through the certification of Florida attorneys.”
Woody has served on the Intellectual Property Certification Committee since 2017 and will begin his term as Chair on July 1, 2021. He is Board Certified in Intellectual Property Law and also serves on the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Business Law Section. He has chaired its Intellectual Property Committee, and currently serves as the statewide chair of its Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Task Force, among numerous other leadership positions.
The nine-member Intellectual Property Certification Committee works to certify other qualified Florida attorneys whose practices primarily consist of patent infringement litigation, patent prosecution, trademark law, and copyright law. The committee utilizes standards to “identify those lawyers who practice intellectual property law and have the special knowledge, skills, and proficiency, as well as the character, ethics, and reputation for professionalism, to be properly identified to the public as certified intellectual property lawyers.” The Florida Bar was the first state bar in the country to certify attorneys for their expertise in intellectual property law, the highest level of evaluation of the competency and experience of attorneys in areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida.
