In an article published by the Daily Business Review, Fort Lauderdale partner Edward O’Sheehan and Fort Lauderdale associate Josh Rubin discuss the outcome of a Zoom video trial in an international child abduction case under the Hague Convention.

The Zoom option was put into effect after U.S. District Chief Judge K. Michael Moore ordered a halt to nonessential proceedings in South Florida federal courts until July due to the coronavirus. “It was important to get some sort of relief or have the ability to address the case,” Josh commented.

Attorneys are weighing in on the idea of virtual hearings in the future; Ed states “It would seem to make sense for not your primary witnesses. I would hope it’s available in the future.”

Shutts & Bowen attorneys represent the Guatemalan father who is accusing his ex-girlfriend of violating the treaty by taking their son without permission to the United States.
