Shutts Welcomes Four Students to Summer Clerkship Program

Four law students have joined Shutts & Bowen for its 10-week 2017 Summer Clerkship Program.

The firm’s program is designed to provide an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience for law students. Students have full freedom to explore any and all practice areas that interest them and delve into the different aspects of our legal services. Summer Associates are paired with a mentor within the firm to offer insights into the history and culture of Shutts and gain an accurate sense of what it is like to work at a nationally-recognized law firm.

The students will take part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions court hearings and other proceedings.

This year’s Summer Clerkship Program students are:

Sebastian Bohorquez – Miami – Sebastian joins us from the Florida International University College of Law, where he is a member of the Moot Court and Negotiation teams. Sebastian has a banking and real estate background. His legal experience includes legal research in areas of local government and federal trade regulations. He is expected to graduate in 2018.

Alina Gomez – Miami – Alina joins us from the Washington University School of Law, where she is Executive Articles Editor of the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy, Co-President and Pro Bono Committee Member of the Public Service Advisory Board, Treasurer of Phi Alpha Delta and an Auction Committee Member of the Women’s Law Caucus. She is expected to graduate in 2018.

Michael Kaney – Orlando – Michael joins us from Florida State University’s College of Law, where he is a member of the Law Review, President of Moot Court, and was appointed as an Associate Justice of the FSU Supreme Court. He previously clerked at a full service firm in Tallahassee and an insurance defense firm in Orlando. He is expected to graduate in 2018.

Jacob Kupp – Orlando – Jacob joins us from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he will be a legal writing and appellate advocacy teaching assistant in the coming year. Jacob has a banking and financial services background with previous experience as an anti-money laundering analyst and a loan review analyst. He is expected to graduate in 2019.
