On June 1, Shutts & Bowen will host a reception to launch its new role as the Tampa program coordinator for Project H.E.L.P. (Homeless Experience Legal Protection). Project H.E.L.P. enlists local attorneys, law students and other legal professionals to provide free legal clinics to homeless individuals.
The event is meant to encourage the legal community to volunteer with the program, which currently has five unstaffed months in the year, according to business litigation attorney and pro bono committee member Ella Shenhav.
Project H.E.L.P. began in early 2004 after a federal judge volunteered at a local shelter and began to gather volunteer attorneys to staff a weekly clinic at the shelter. The project has continued to expand, with volunteers providing free legal services in over 20 cities.
