George Platt Joins Performing Arts Center Authority

Shutts & Bowen Partner, George I. Platt, was named by the Broward County Commission as a member of the Performing Arts Center Authority, the governing board of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. Platt joins a 13-member all-volunteer Performing Arts Center Authority, which was established in 1984 by the Florida Legislature.  Members of the Performing Arts Center Authority represent every region of Broward County and guide the Broward Center as the community evolves.

Mr. Platt has been integral to Broward County's growth as a former Broward County Commissioner, as Chair of the Downtown Council and as a member of the Broward County Charter Review Commission and Broward Workshop.  He is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Broward Public Library Foundation.  He also served as Chair of the Florida Board of Community Colleges, Chair of the State of Florida Education Facilities Study Committee and a current member of the Nova Southeastern University Board of Trustees.  In his role on the Authority, Mr. Platt will be part of the team that guides the Broward Center’s extensive educational outreach programs which have reached more than two million students to date.  His international experience, gained overseas as a Legal Center Fellow and a Peace Corps volunteer, will be valuable to the Broward Center as it continues to develop its role as the “Cultural Embassy” of Broward.
