Harvey Oyer Named a Trustee of the Year by Florida Association of Museums

Harvey E. Oyer III has been named a Trustee of the Year by the Florida Association of Museums. He is being recognized for his efforts to establish the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum, which recently opened to the public in the restored 1916 Palm Beach County Courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach. Oyer was singled out for his role in saving the courthouse from bulldozers and in creating the museum’s Cornerstone Campaign, which has raised $8 million to date. He will be honored September 10 in Miami during the Association’s Annual Conference and Exposition.

Mr. Oyer is a Marine Captain, archeologist, and authority on cultural property protection and repatriation issues. He authored one of the definitive academic articles on the subject in 1999 in the Columbia Journal of Law& the Arts. Mr. Oyer is a partner in Shutts & Bowen’s West Palm Beach office, where he practices Land Use, Real Estate and Equine Law. He earned his B.A. with high honors and J.D. with honors from the University of Florida and holds a Masters degree in archeology from Cambridge University.
