Frederick O’Malley is Shutts & Bowen’s Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for all of its financial and administrative functions.
Joining Shutts in 2007, Fred’s overall management responsibilities include providing leadership and direction to the firm’s office administrators and department managers in accounting, finance, technology, human resources, benefits, marketing, recruiting, and office services. He’s also responsible for recruiting, screening and validating all lateral partner candidates. Fred’s an ex-officio member of the firm’s Executive Committee as well as an active member of other management and administrative committees.
Fred has more than 25 years of executive legal management experience, previously serving as Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer and combinations of those roles with medium to large sized law firms in the Washington DC/Baltimore area prior to relocating to South Florida. This experience provided him with knowledge in law firm administration, finance, human resources, marketing, records, conflict, mergers and acquisitions, relocations, practice areas, and technology.
Under Fred’s direction, the Firm has grown from 180 attorneys in 2007 to the current attorney headcount of more than 270. Furthermore, the firm’s now ranked among the top 200 largest law firms in the United States, according to the Am Law 200 List.
Fred is a “distinguished” member of the Association of Legal Administrators (“ALA”) and has held various leadership positions within the organization. He’s also a member of the Large Firm Administrators (“LFA”) Section of ALA where he serves on the Steering Committee.
