Woodrow Pollack Reviews “IP Basics” at the Great American Teach-In

Shutts & Bowen LLP Tampa partner Woodrow “Woody” H. Pollack, was recently a featured speaker at Gaither High School during the Great American Teach-In event, held on November 21, 2019.
Hillsborough County Public Schools welcomed speakers into classrooms to discuss and demonstrate their professions and hobbies during this event. The event brings community members and parents into the schools as an opportunity to interact with students firsthand, and for the students to learn about careers that they may not have been familiar with previously. Presenting to Gaither High Schoolers, Woody presented “IP Basics” to multiple classes. His presentation included an overview of trademark, copyright, and patent law, as well as a group discussion regarding the patent potential of a student project involving life-saving measures for a child in a locked car.
This annual event is organized in celebration of American Education Week, and brings in hundreds of speakers each year to participate. According to Hillsborough County Public School, their graduation rate set another all-time high record last year, soaring to 85.8%, amounting to an increase of 1,055 more students earning a high school diploma, with many of them pursuing higher education and careers in the local area.
