Fort Lauderdale partner Brendan Aloysius Barry recently attended the premiere of “Run Across Cuba” at the Miami Dade College Koubek Memorial Center.
The film follows the journey of Alexis Garcia, an accomplished ultra-runner who left Cuba 25 years ago. Alexis was rescued by the United States Coast Guard in the Florida Straits after 55 hours in a homemade kayak. He later went on to become a teacher in for Miami-Dade Public Schools.
Over the course of 33 days, Alexis ran the entire 1,000 mile length of Cuba – from the easternmost point, Punta de Maisi, to the westernmost point, Cabo de San Antonio – running 30 miles every day. Brendan ran two days with him near Matanzas. He trek across his home country is the subject of the film.
