Fort Lauderdale associate Deedee Bitran participated in Career Day at the Upper Academy of Bowman Ashe/Doolin.
The event was an interactive virtual opportunity for students to engage with various professionals via Zoom while learning more about different career opportunities. The professionals discussed what initially sparked their interest in their fields, obstacles they faced, what their daily routines are, and how the students’ current classes can help the students succeed in various career paths.
She shared with the students how much she enjoys the flexibility that can come with being a lawyer and noted that she has two children under the age of two. She explained that time management and strong organizational skills are critical when juggling young children, clients, court hearings, conference calls, and various time sensitive assignments, but that it is certainly manageable if you are dedicated and put your mind to it.
Deedee also shared her non-traditional path to becoming a lawyer by explaining that she graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Health Sciences and wanted to be an audiologist who helped the deaf population with cochlear implants. She explained that she only decided she wanted to become a lawyer while she was in an audiology doctorate program learning about the Americans with Disabilities Act from an attorney guest speaker. She encouraged the students to keep their eyes and ears open because you never know when you will meet someone who can spark your interest in a career path that you previously did not consider.
