Diana Mendez, a Government Law partner in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, recently hosted a Miami’s Next Leaders Institute Weekend dedicated to teaching attendees about running for office.
Miami’s Next Leaders, of which Diana is a founding President and current Board Member, is a nonprofit organization that seeks to train and educate young professional leaders to become civic leaders. Each year, through a highly competitive process, the organization selects young professionals with a demonstrated track record of progressive leadership in Miami to participate in its signature Leadership Development Institute. Participants spend five weekends creating a deep network of allies and learning about issues affecting the community, all of which prepares them to initiate and bring about progressive change, and learn about Miami’s history, its civic framework, social entrepreneurship and how to run for office.
During the workshop, participants learned about political communications, political fundraising and community organizing from professionals and elected officials.
