Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday two appointments to Florida’s Judicial Nominating Commissions (JNCs), including Ashley S. Hodson, a partner in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Sarasota office.

Each of the 27 separate, nonpartisan JNCs consist of nine members appointed by the governor, four of which are lawyers. Each member is responsible for evaluating candidates and drafting a list of nominees when vacancies open on the benches of Florida’s judicial system. Governor DeSantis appointed Ashley to the Twelfth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, which covers DeSoto, Manatee and Sarasota counties. She is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2023.

Ashley focuses her practice on estate planning, estate and gift taxation, and estate and trust administration. She designs her clients’ estate plans to meet their specific personal and financial goals, with an emphasis on family wealth transfer planning. She also has significant experience administering complex estates and trusts, including the preparation of federal estate tax returns. Ashley received her LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law, her Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) from the University of North Florida, and her B.S. in Accounting, cum laude, from Florida State University.
