Jake Monk, an Insurance partner in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, presented at the Eastern Claims Conference 2024, which took place March 10-12 in Boston, MA.
On March 11, Jake presented “It’s All About Occ” alongside Sophia Horsman, Senior Disability Claim Consultant at Standard Insurance, and Cristy Dyar, Vocational Case Manager at Standard Insurance Company. The presentation explored solutions to practical and legal challenges in determining insured’s occupations when administering individual disability income policies.
The following day, Jake presented with Amy Atkinson, Deputy General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer of Munich Re Life US, in a presentation titled, “Artificial Intelligence in Insurance - Legal Implications & Considerations,” which explored recently proposed and/or enacted legislation on the use of AI, from underwriting to claim handling, throughout the insurance industry.
The Eastern Claims Conference (ECC) is an educational conference devoted to Life, Disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Accident and Health Claims Management. The ECC's program is designed to serve a broad target market, from entry-level associate personnel to senior management. The ECC's only function is to present an annual conference for the benefit of those who serve the insurance industry in the claims handling process.
