Our 2024 Summer Associate Program brought 13 law students from five law schools to the firm for an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience. The students took part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions, court hearings and other proceedings. Nearing the end of the program, the students agreed to share a few highlights from their summer at Shutts.
Daulton A. Browning joined Shutts’ Jacksonville office for the summer from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Daulton is a member of the First-Generation Professionals Society.
Daulton shares his thoughts on his summer experience at Shutts.
What were the three most memorable experiences throughout your time here?
The most memorable experience during my time at Shutts was the trip to the Miami office with the other Summer Associates. During this trip, we had the wonderful opportunity to assist Feeding South Florida where we worked shoulder to shoulder with other firms.
Next, I was able to perform research regarding a copyright claim, and this research was used to reach a settlement agreement resulting in a satisfied client.
Finally, the golf outings with the Jacksonville office were always a blast.
If you could go back to the first day of the summer program and give yourself a piece of advice, what would it be?
Treat every assignment like you are submitting it directly to a client. This was stated during one of the Shutts info sessions this summer, and it really stuck with me.
What were your expectations for the summer, and have they been met (or exceeded)?
The work was interesting and intellectually challenging as expected. The work environment far exceeded my expectations. I am very thankful to everyone at Shutts for a wonderful summer experience.
