My Summer Associate Experience: Max A. Razavi

Our 2024 Summer Associate Program brought 13 law students from five law schools to the firm for an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience. The students took part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions, court hearings and other proceedings. Nearing the end of the program, the students agreed to share a few highlights from their summer at Shutts.

Max A. Razavi joined Shutts’ West Palm Beach office for the summer from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Max is a member of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, Association for Law and Business and Real Estate Law Association. He has previously interned for the Honorable William Matthewman for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Max shares his thoughts on his summer experience at Shutts.

Why did you choose to spend your 2024 Summer with Shutts?

I applied for the position at Shutts because of the firm’s fantastic reputation in the community and my desire to work on Florida matters at a Florida law firm. Many Summer Associate positions are limited to just one practice area, but Shutts let me know that I would be able to work on assignments across every legal field covered in the office. Since I was undecided about which area of law I wanted to focus on, I was excited to narrow down my interests by learning from some of the best attorneys in their respective fields. Additionally, as a Palm Beach County native, I was glad to begin my legal career at home.

What is something new that you learned during the summer program?

Something new that I learned this summer is how a large law firm that handles complex matters operates. I was impressed by the teamwork and coordination displayed by both the attorneys and staff at Shutts. This is something that can’t easily be taught in law school, so it was great to experience daily life at the firm this summer.

If you could go back to the first day of the summer program and give yourself a piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell myself not to hesitate to ask for help when I’m stuck and have a question. Everyone I worked with in the West Palm Beach office was eager to teach me about their practice and wanted to help me succeed, whether through assignment feedback, “lunch and learns,” or impromptu chats in the hallway.
