For the seventh year in a row, Shutts & Bowen LLP has been included among The American Lawyer’s Am Law 200, a ranking that categorizes law firms by revenue, profits-per-partner and number of lawyers.
Shutts came in ranked at No. 159 on the 2021 Am Law 200 list, climbing two spots from last year. The firm’s gross revenue increased by 2.10% in the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2020. On average, gross revenue for firms ranked in the Second Hundred increased 1.1%, down from the 5% increase in 2019.
“Shutts & Bowen has continued to grow, experiencing a solid record of revenue and profit, despite the challenges inherent to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the firm’s rise on the Am Law 200 list reflects that success,” said Bowman Brown, Chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee.
The American Lawyer reports that one of the biggest differentiators setting the Second Hundred apart in 2020 was that many firms were eligible to receive forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loans from the federal government. The cash from these loans was not included in the publication’s calculation of firms’ revenue, which is restricted to “fee income from legal work and revenues from ancillary businesses.”
