Shutts & Bowen LLP, a full-service business law firm, is pleased to announce that Alexander I. Tachmes, a Partner in the Miami office and Chair of the Land Use Practice Group, will join the faculty of the LL.M. Real Property Development Program at the University of Miami School of Law as an adjunct professor teaching land use and real estate law for the Spring 2024 semester.
Tachmes’ courses will cover a broad range of land use law topics, including core elements of a zoning practice, zoning codes and comprehensive plans, the latest trends in land use law, as well as related local government subjects such as public-private partnerships.
“I have many fond memories of being a student at the University of Miami and am now very pleased to be joining the faculty of the university’s outstanding Real Property Development Program,” said Tachmes. “The University of Miami School of Law has a reputation for scholarly excellence and for producing some of the finest attorneys in Florida’s legal profession. My courses will focus not only on the legal theories of land use and zoning, but also on the practical aspects of navigating complex land use approvals.”
Tachmes has deep roots at the University of Miami. As an undergraduate at the university, he earned his bachelor’s degree in History, Phi Beta Kappa, in 2 ½ years. He was also heavily involved in campus life and served as one of the first student representatives to the university’s Board of Trustees. After earning his undergraduate degree, Tachmes earned his J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated with honors and was a member, editor and published author of the Law Review.
Tachmes has represented many clients over the years in some of South Florida’s most complex land use and local government matters. Early in his career, he served as a First Assistant City Attorney for Miami Beach. He has been a partner at Shutts for approximately 19 years.
