Governor Ron DeSantis recently announced appointments and reappointments to Florida’s Judicial Nominating Commissions (JNCs), including two Shutts & Bowen partners among those named.
The 27 separate JNCs act as the panels that recommend lawyers for judgeships, selecting nominees to fill judicial vacancies within the Florida court system. The Supreme Court, appellate districts, and circuit JNCs consist of nine members, all of whom are appointed by the Governor.
Daniel Nordby, a partner in the Tallahassee office and Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, was reappointed to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission, with a term ending July 1, 2026. After serving on the Commission from 2012-2018 as a direct appointee of Governor Scott, Daniel was appointed to a third term by Governor DeSantis in July 2019. From 2019-2022, Daniel served as Chair of the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission. His practice focuses on high-profile, high-stakes matters of law and public policy, particularly in the areas of constitutional law, Florida administrative law, and appellate law.
Denise Harle, a partner in the Tallahassee office, was appointed to the Second Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, with a term ending July 1, 2028. Denise focuses her practice on administrative, commercial, constitutional, and appellate litigation. She has experience determining appeal strategy, briefing, and oral argument in high-profile cases in state and federal appellate courts involving constitutional questions and critical questions of statutory interpretation.
