Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Sarasota office recently participated in two different holiday initiatives aimed at bringing joy to foster children and the elderly in their community.
Following a successful Thanksgiving fundraiser for All Faiths Food Bank, the attorneys and staff in Shutts’ Sarasota office once again devoted their time and resources to projects that help the residents of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Working with One More Child, an organization dedicated to providing services to vulnerable children and struggling families, the Sarasota office collected approximately $700 worth of toys and gifts to supply to foster children in the community for the holidays. In addition to the successful toy drive, the office signed and delivered 200 Christmas cards to the Pines of Sarasota, a local, not-for-profit assisted living facility. The holiday mail program brings joy to the elderly residents of the rehabilitation and memory care facility by distributing cards and letters to seniors in long-term care.
Partner Charla M. Burchett currently serves on the Board of Trustees as First Vice Chair of The Pines of Sarasota Foundation, an organization created to support the endowment, capital and programmatic needs of Pines of Sarasota senior care community. For seven decades, Pines of Sarasota has cared for more seniors who have outlived their financial resources than any other senior care community in Southwest Florida, with a shortfall of $7,500 annually per resident. Pines of Sarasota Foundation’s Mission Fund helps sustain Pines of Sarasota’s ability to continue to care for residents facing financial hardship. Seniors in such a situation make up more than 85% of Pines’ skilled nursing residents.
