Shutts & Bowen LLP partners Karen W. Wankelman and John Patterson recently co-led the team representing Southern Marinas, LLC and its affiliates in the acquisition of three best-in-class marinas.

The Shutts partners advised Southern Marinas in the acquisition of Ocean Isle Marina in North Carolina, Elliot Bay Marina in Seattle, Washington and Sequoyah Marina on Norris Lake in East Tennessee. The Sequoyah Marina transaction marked the third Southern Marinas acquisition within the last 30 days, as the company expands its footprint across the United States.

Karen and John, with assistance from Sarasota attorney Erik M. Hanson, served as lead counsel in these transactions as well as prior marina transactions. Shutts & Bowen’s responsibilities as lead counsel included advising on issues related to the acquisition agreements, real property, as well as managing closing for each property. The Shutts team worked with local counsel in all three states to complete successful transactions for Southern Marinas’ growing portfolio of premier properties.
