Charla Burchett, a leader in estate planning law in the Sarasota area for more than two decades, has joined Shutts & Bowen LLP as a partner in the firm’s Trusts and Estates Group. A Board Certified Wills, Trusts, and Estates attorney, Ms. Burchett moves to Shutts & Bowen from her own firm, the Sarasota Law Office of Charla M. Burchett. There, she has worked with clients in all areas of estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration.

Ms. Burchett established herself as a leader early in her career, both in her field and in the community. She has chaired the estate planning and solo divisions of the Sarasota County Bar Association, served as president of the Southwest Florida Guardianship Council, and president of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Florida State Guardianship Association. She served as a director of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County from 2003 until 2011, including a term as chair. She is a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® rated attorney.

Born and raised in Kentucky, Ms. Burchett received her bachelor’s degree with high honors from the University of Kentucky and her J.D. from the University of Louisville School of Law. She obtained her Masters in Law in Estate Planning (L.L.M.) from the University of Miami School of Law, the only institution in the country that offered such a degree at that time.
