On Monday, March 2, West Palm Beach partner Harvey Oyer participated in the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day. Harvey, a celebrated author and historian, presented “The Adventures of Charlie Pierce,” a book series he wrote that follows the epic adventures of Charlie and his Seminole friend, Tiger Bowlegs.
In attendance at the event held in the Belle Glade Library were preschool and school-age children. As part of the Read Across America Day events, which also celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, there were appearances by The Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 & Thing 2.
Harvey, a fifth generation native of Palm Beach County, is an award-winning and best-selling children’s book author. His books, “The American Jungle,” “The Last Egret” and “The Last Calusa,” have won numerous awards and are used widely by schools throughout Florida. He was selected as the Florida Distinguished Author for 2013 and received the 2018 Presidential Citation Award presented by the Florida Historical Society.
