6.1.07

Orlando real estate attorney Jennifer Slone Tobin, a partner with the Florida law firm of Shutts & Bowen LLP, has been selected as one of the Top Women in Florida Commercial Real Estate for 2007 by Florida Real Estate Journal, a leading statewide real estate publication. Tobin is one of five Central Florida women to be honored.

The twenty prominent women selected for this annual award are female professionals and executives involved in all areas of the real estate and construction industry, including developers, brokers, lenders and attorneys.  In addition to Ms. Tobin, the Central Florida honorees include: Christie Alexander with NAI Realvest in Maitland,  Lisa Bailey with GVA Advantis in Orlando, Deborah Mickler with Colliers Arnold in Orlando, and Christina Webb with Colonial Properties Trust in Lake Mary.

FREJ will honor the current award recipients at an exclusive reception to be held in early October at the Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando. Former Top Women honorees, including Shutts & Bowen Miami land use partner Judith Burke, also have been invited.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized for this statewide award,” said Ms. Tobin, who handled approximately $300 million in real estate transactions in 2006. “I commend all of the honorees, who have demonstrated their commitment to professional excellence.”

Shutts & Bowen partner Michael J. Grindstaff, who chairs the Orlando office’s Real Estate Practice Group, described Jennifer as a “talented and dedicated” professional. “Jennifer has established herself as a versatile transactional and development attorney capable of managing projects of all sizes,” he said.

FREJ selected Ms. Tobin as an award recipient for her community involvement and for the legal work she has done that has fostered the growth of Central Florida’s bio-medical industry and pedestrian-friendly town center communities.

Ms. Tobin represents The Burnham Institute for Medical Research, a non-profit bio-medical research company which is expanding to the Central Florida area. The State of Florida is providing significant grants to The Burnham that are contingent on obtaining more than $90 million in funds from the City of Orlando, Orange County and Lake Nona Land Company to construct a new state-of-the-art facility for The Burnham. Ms. Tobin represented The Burnham in its negotiations with those parties to draft multiple, complex agreements covering the design, construction, development and funding of that facility.  The City and the County approved those agreements in early March.

In addition, Ms. Tobin represents Broad Street Partners in a variety of real estate and development matters throughout Florida, including the development of a new town center for the City of Oviedo, Florida.  This project will feature a City-owned park with a lake and amphitheater surrounded by both residential and retail components. Ms. Tobin also represents Falcon Land & Development, a commercial and residential developer based in South Florida.

Despite a demanding career, Ms. Tobin, who resides in the City of Orlando, has found time to participate in community and professional organizations. She currently chairs the Development Review Committee of the Downtown Development Board for the City of Orlando.  She also served as President of the Board of Directors for the Downtown Orlando Partnership in 2005, served on its executive committee in 2006, and currently chairs the “Taste of Downtown” event.
