Governor Ron DeSantis recently announced appointments and reappointments to Florida’s Judicial Nominating Commissions (JNCs). These include several Shutts & Bowen partners.
The 27 separate JNCs act as the panels that recommend lawyers for judgeships, selecting nominees to fill judicial vacancies within the Florida court system. The Supreme Court, appellate districts, and circuit JNCs consist of nine members, all of whom are appointed by the Governor.
Daniel Nordby, a partner in the Tallahassee office, was appointed to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission, where he previously served from 2012-2018. Daniel is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2023. Daniel returned to Shutts in January 2019 after serving for two years as General Counsel to Governor Rick Scott. His practice focuses on high-profile, high-stakes matters of law and public policy, particularly in the areas of constitutional law, Florida administrative law, and appellate law.
Miranda Lundeen Soto, a partner in the Miami office, was appointed to the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission for a term expiring on July 1, 2023. Miranda is Florida Bar Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and has tried more than 50 cases, bench and jury trials.
