Paul A. Hechenberger is a Partner in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where he is a member of the Corporate Practice Group.
Paul focuses his practice on M&A, complex commercial transactions, and entity choice, formation, governance, and compliance. He has significant experience representing both domestic and international, public and private, clients in buy/sell, joint venture, supply chain, and corporate structuring transactions. He has guided clients through numerous compliance and regulatory challenges and advised both public and private Boards.
His experience leading high performance, geographically diverse teams in the aviation, defense, hospitality, and automotive sectors through growth-oriented transactions brings a business partnering perspective to his clients. He has closed a variety of transactions in the US, EU, Canada, Caribbean, Brazil, Panama and China.
Prior to returning to Shutts, Paul served as General Counsel for a private equity backed aviation investment platform that included a Part 121 charter airline with 45 aircraft, and a Part 145 commercial engine MRO and test facility. Before that, he served as Deputy General Counsel for a Fortune 500 publicly traded aerostructures manufacturer, as General Counsel (Aftermarket Division) and Chief M&A Counsel for a FTSE 250 listed aviation services and manufacturing provider, and as Corporate Counsel to a Global 500 fire and security manufacturing and services provider.
A former U.S. Navy Naval Flight Officer, Paul was Co-Pilot / Mission Commander in the EA-6B electronic attack aircraft, and commanded three Navy Reserve units. He retired as a Captain with 11 years of active and 19 years of reserve component service, and accumulated over 1400 hours of flight time, including combat missions.
