Throughout the month of January, the team at Shutts & Bowen’s Fort Lauderdale office will volunteer to staff the Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s “Telephone Advice and Counsel Hotline.” This service offers free legal advice and counsel to low-income residents of Broward County and is staffed by volunteer attorneys from the community. The areas of law in which they offer assistance include private landlord/tenant, consumer and some family law matters.
Volunteer attorneys provide advice and counsel for three hours on Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and receive pro bono credit hours for each day that they volunteer. Shutts attorneys will volunteer the entire month of January.
The team is being led by Edward O’Sheehan, Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and a Board Member of Broward County Legal Aid Service and Coast to Coast Legal Aid, and Jackie Howe, a former Board Member of Broward County Legal Aid Service. Volunteers include Sara Levy, David Batista, Josh Rubin, Ed Stacker, Paul Fanning, Chris Scardina, Amy Wessel and Joseph M. Goldstein.
