Chief Circuit Judge Jack Tuter recently issued an administrative order allowing a Broward County Bar Association committee to appoint professional and civility magistrates. The goal of this pilot program is to promote and better enforce the appropriate level of professionalism and civility among the lawyers participating in the Circuit Civil divisions of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.
Sidney Calloway, a partner in the Fort Lauderdale office, has been selected as a volunteer Professionalism and Civility Magistrate for the program. The group will hear cases and recommend disciplinary action for judges to consider for offenses that fall outside the scope of Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings. They will provide resolutions within weeks, targeting a 45-day turnaround.
